Breaking (not so*) Bad Legacy

The trials and tribulations, success and celebrations of moving from Monolith to Microservices.

Brett and Ray will share an experience report explaining how they are moving a vital bank service from an ETL-based architecture to an event-driven one using .NET Core and Kafka.  First, they will provide an introduction to the different paradigms and how they are bridging the gap between the two in a production environment.  Then, they will share the overall architecture of the code and patterns used - the Gang Of Four lives!!  Finally, they will give you some lessons learned from their journey delivering this high-volume, resilient microservice - one of the first implemented at Fifth Third Bank.

*can't be that bad - Ray pretty much built it!!
*** Warning - this presentation is not for the faint of heart.  It is rated "C#" meaning code will be shown.  If you get faint at the sight of code, this presentation is not for you. ***
